Tottenham Hotspur are actively looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the next season. And for that, they have set their eyes on Hull City winger Jaden Philogene for the summer transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.
After a strong start to the season, Ange Postecoglou‘s side saw a downtrend due to a lack of depth in the squad. Hence, Spurs want to fill the gaps and put together a strong unit to have better chances of winning the Premier League title.
Jaden Philogene has solid numbers
After getting recognition at Aston Villa, Jaden Philogene made a switch to Hull City last summer for a deal worth £5 million. He adopted really quickly and became a solid performer for his new club. He has featured in 20 games this season, netting eight goals and providing six assists.
The English winger is averaging a whopping 3.8 shots, 1.7 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per game. He also averages 2.2 tackles, 0.4 interceptions and 0.6 clearances per game. He has played on both the flanks and even in the midfield, showing his versatility (stats via whoscored).
Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race
Tottenham Hotspur’s willingness to pursue Jaden Philogene is a good move as the player is consistent and versatile. He can be lined up in different positions according to the demands, which will add to the squad’s depth. It will allow players like Son Heung-min and Richarlison to play in a more central role.
The 22-year-old can also be a long-term investment for Spurs. Though Aston Villa has a £15 million buy-back clause, it will only be triggered if Hull City gets promoted to the Premier League. For now, that seems to be far away as the second-tier side is ranking sixth in the EPL Championship.
Philogene will fit perfectly in the Spurs’ attacking style of play as he is a skilful player. With a high work rate, he can contribute to both aspects of the game. It will be interesting to see if Spurs manages to lure him away or not in the summer.
