In a recent report, Calciomercato stated that Tottenham Hotspur are facing tough competition for Genoa winger Albert Gudmundsson. It has been claimed that Spurs would have to rival West Ham United in the race to land the Icelandic international this summer.
Gudmundsson’s Impressive Form In Serie A
Gudmundsson is having a decent campaign at the Italian club as he has put in a series of impressive performances for them in front of the opponent’s goal. The Icelandic sensation has scored 12 goals and picked up four assists in 29 appearances for Genoa this season across multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old has caught the eye at times in the final third based on his average of 1.8 shots, 2.4 key passes, 2.0 crosses and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He has even been tidy when distributing possession after completing 81.6% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Serie A club will run out in the summer of 2027 which would not make it easy for Spurs to sign him on the cheap in the summer transfer window.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Ange Postecoglu Recruit Gudmundsson?
Gudmundsson is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball on the offensive end of the field. He has got the vision to engineer some inviting chances for his teammates and can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range.
The Icelandic sensation is primarily a forward but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if asked to do so. We can expect him to bring more goals and creativity to Tottenham’s attack. Gudmundsson is good enough to form a lethal attacking partnership with Heung-min Son at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 26, the Genoa star will only get better with each year which makes him a worthy target for Spurs boss Ange Postecoglu to consider in the summer transfer period. He might help Tottenham challenge across all fronts in the future. Thus, Postecoglu should focus on recruiting Gudmundsson when the transfer window commences later this year. However, there are some question marks over whether the Icelandic attacker can make a smooth transition to life in England.
