In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka is keen on joining Barcelona this summer. It is believed that the Slovak midfield ace has expressed his admiration for the Catalan club but Barca would have to pay €50m to land him in the upcoming transfer window.
Lobotka’s Impressive Run Of Form In Serie A
Lobotka has enjoyed a solid campaign at the Italian club after he put in a string of impressive performances at the heart of their midfield. The 29-year-old has participated in 40 matches for Napoli this season, picking up one assist in various competitions.
The Trencin-born talent has anchored the midfield with conviction as he is averaging 1.7 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball based on his pass success rate of 92% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for the Catalan club to recruit him this summer.
Should Barcelona Move In For Lobotka This Summer?
Lobotka is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side in the middle of the park. The Slovak sensation doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can even set up a few decent chances for others around him when he is playing well on the field.
Lobotka can even make some clever runs with the ball from midfield. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so. We can expect him to bring more quality and depth to Barcelona‘s midfield department.
At 29, Lobotka is playing in his prime and has what it takes to make an immediate impact at the Nou Camp if he can make a smooth transition to life in Spanish football. He is playing some of the best football of his career and could be a real asset in Barca‘s squad in the coming seasons. Thus, the Catalan club should consider moving in for him but only if they can generate enough funds to sign him ahead of the new campaign.
