In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Manchester United are in pole position to recruit Everton star Amadou Onana. It has been stated that the Red Devils are leading the race to land the Belgian midfielder after Barcelona were priced out of a move for him.
Onana’s Solid Campaign At Merseyside
Onana is enjoying a decent season at the Merseyside club as he has managed to put in a handful of influential displays at the centre of Sean Dyche’s midfield. The 22-year-old has found the back of the net three times and picked up one assist in 29 matches for the Toffees during this campaign in various competitions.
The Belgian midfield ace has proven himself to be a reliable performer at the centre of the park based on his average of 2.5 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 1.1 shots and 0.8 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 84.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Goodison Park will expire in the summer of 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for Man United to sign him on a cut-price deal at the end of this season.
What Will Onana Bring To Manchester United?
Onana can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and can earn possession back for his team. The Belgian talent generates a lot of venom with his shot attempts from long range and can create some inviting chances for his teammates up top. He is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
Onana would no doubt bring a lot of quality to Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag’s midfield. He would be an excellent acquisition for the Red Devils to pull off this summer. At 22, Onana has got a bright future ahead of him.
Thus, the Mancunian club would be wise to try everything they can to lure the Belgian talent to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window. He already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at Man United.
