In a recent tweet, Sky reporter Patrick Berger mentioned that Manchester City have identified PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko as a target. It has been claimed that the Mancunian club would have to rival Liverpool, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund in the race to land the Belgian wide player.
Bakayoko’s Impressive Record In Dutch Football This Season
Bakayoko is enjoying a productive season at the Dutch club as he has managed to produce several match-winning displays on the right side of their attack. The 20-year-old has scored eight goals and picked up 13 assists in 40 matches for PSV Eindhoven during this campaign across various competitions.
The Belgian wing wizard has been a consistent performer on the right flank based on his average of 3.1 shots, 2.1 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has even taken care of the ball when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing 86.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Dutch football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Dutch club will run out in the summer of 2026, so Man City will have to launch a convincing offer if they want to sign the Belgian sensation in the summer transfer window.
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Move In For Bakayoko?
Bakayoko usually packs some power with his shot attempts and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the pace to cause a lot of headaches for his marker in the final third.
The Belgian talent has done well to add a lot of goals and assists to his game this season. However, there are some question marks over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in English football if Man City manage to win the race for his services.
At 20, Bakayoko has got the potential to become a future star at the highest level. Hence, he would be an excellent, long-term acquisition for the Mancunian giants to consider in the summer. Pep Guardiola would be the ideal man to unlock the best out of the youngster at the Etihad Stadium in the coming seasons. With all things considered, Man City would be wise to move in for Bakayoko later this year.
