Liverpool Submit Enquiry For This Atalanta Player: Will They Get Him?

Liverpool are making advance moves to reinforce their unit ahead of next season. In the latest development, they have submitted a formal enquiry for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, according to a report published in Calciomercato.

With multiple injuries and uncertainty over the future of a few players, the Reds believe that they need to bring in a new midfielder in the summer. However, Arsenal are serious contenders in the race alongside the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Juventus.

Excellent numbers by Teun Koopmeiners

Climbing up the ladders from AZ youth academy, Teun Koopmeiners joined Atalanta in the summer of 2021 for a reported fee of €12 million. Since joining the Serie A side, he has taken huge strides in his footballing career and has emerged as a valuable player.

The 26-year-old has already scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 34 games this season. He is averaging 1.4 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game. Though he mainly plays as an attacking midfielder, he can also perform the duties of a traditional defensive midfielder (stats via Whoscored).

Koopmeiners has a great sense of building attacks with his key passes and through balls. His ability to shoot from long distances and take set pieces helps him get on the score sheet. Earlier, he also expressed his desire to join the Premier League in future.

Liverpool to spend huge on Teun Koopmeiners

Liverpool brought the likes of Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis MacAllister, and Ryan Gravenberch to replace Jordan Henderson and Fabinho last summer. With Thiago potentially leaving the club and the injury concerns with Szoboszlai and Stefan Bajcetic, the club understand the need to bring in a new midfielder.

The Reds have faith in Teun Koopmeiners’ talent and believe he can excel at the Anfield. However, they will have to fight with other major European clubs to get his signature. The player will not cost anything less than €75 million.
