In a recent report, The Telegraph claimed that Liverpool are keen on recruiting Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi. It is believed that the Reds would face competition in the form of Manchester United in the race to land the English central defender in the summer.
Guehi’s Impressive Form In English Football This Season
Guehi has enjoyed a solid campaign at Selhurst Park as he has been responsible for putting in a series of dominant displays for the Eagles on the defensive end of the pitch. The 23-year-old has made 26 appearances for the Eagles this season, picking up one assist in various competitions. However, he is out of action for Palace at the moment due to a knee injury.
The English talent has been a solid presence when defending at the back based on his average of 1.2 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 3.9 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has also been careful when distributing possession from inside his half as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 86.9% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Guehi’s current contract at the London club will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Reds to get a deal done for him on the cheap in the summer.
Should Liverpool Go For Guehi?
Guehi is a tough-tackling central defender who can time his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t shy away from putting his foot through the ball when needed. The English sensation is an accurate passer of the ball as well which would suit Liverpool’s brand of football.
Therefore, the Merseyside club would be wise to go for Guehi in this upcoming transfer window. He would add more bite and steel to their backline and could help the Reds challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons.
At 23, Guehi has got a bright future ahead of him. He might even serve as an ideal replacement for Joel Matip whose contract at Anfield runs out at the end of this campaign. With all things considered, Liverpool should focus on trying everything they can to lure Guehi to Merseyside when the transfer window reopens later this summer.
