In a recent print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport stated that Liverpool are in pole position to sign Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. It has been claimed that the Reds are leading the race to recruit the Dutch midfield ace in the summer.
Koopmeiners’ Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season
Koopmeiners is having a solid campaign at Atalanta as he has been responsible for putting in a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 26-year-old has scored ten times and secured four assists in 32 matches for the Italian outfit this season across various competitions.
The Dutch sensation has proven his worth by averaging 1.3 tackles, 1.2 clearances, 1.7 shots, 2.0 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass success rate of 82.1% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored)
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Liverpool would have to launch a big offer if they are serious about recruiting the Dutch talent at the end of this season.
What Will Koopmeiners Bring To Liverpool?
Koopmeiners is a decent tackler of the ball and usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third. The Dutch midfield ace is an energetic runner with the ball as well. He mainly functions as a holding midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or play in the number ten position if told to do so.
We can expect Koopmeiners to bring more quality to Liverpool‘s midfield. He has what it takes to earn regular playing opportunities at the Merseyside club in the coming seasons. At 26, the best is yet to come from the Dutch talent. Hence, the Reds should consider going all out to get Koopmeiners on board in the upcoming transfer window.
However, there are some concerns over whether the Atalanta star can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if the Reds manage to snap him up later this year.
