In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Nottingham Forest ace Murillo. It is understood that the Reds have identified the Brazilian defender as a target for the summer transfer window.
Murillo’s Impressive Form In The Premier League This Season
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign at the City Ground as he has managed to put in a string of impressive performances for Nottingham on the defensive third of the pitch. Murillo has made 27 appearances for his current employers this season, picking up one assist across various competitions.
The Brazilian centre-half has enjoyed a good run of form when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 5.8 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession relatively well, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 76.8% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Murillo is under contract at Nottingham until the summer of 2028. Therefore, Liverpool would have to make a sizable offer if they want to convince the Midlands club to part ways with their prized asset later this year.
Should Liverpool Go For Murillo In The Summer?
Murillo is a tough-tackling defender who can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can even play his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.84m, the Brazilian can use his robust frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team. At 21, he has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday as long as he continues to improve with each year. Hence, Liverpool should go for a player of his skillset this summer.
We can expect Murillo to add more bite and steel to the Merseyside club‘s defensive department and help them compete across all competitions in the coming seasons. He already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at Anfield if the Reds manage to get him on board when the transfer window commences at the end of this campaign.
