Declan Rice discussed how Arsenal feel about losing the title last year as they prepare to compete again this year. He joined Arsenal in the summer, and his presence has improved their performance this season. Last season, they won the majority of the time but lost the last two months. Rice now claims they are better equipped to win since they learnt from their failures last season.
Declan Rice on not winning the league with Arsenal so far
Arsenal almost won the Premier League last season but didn’t quite make it. Now, they’re trying again and really want to win this time. They’re a better team now than they were last year, especially since Declan Rice joined them in the summer. Even though they struggled a bit in December, they’ve been doing really well in 2024. Their defense and the number of goals they’ve scored are the best in the league.
Last season, Arsenal were winning for most of the time but then lost in the last two months. Now, they’re trying to catch up to Liverpool and Manchester City in the league, and there are only two points between the top three teams. Rice says they’ve learned from their past mistakes and are in a better position to try to win their first title since 2004.
“I think last year, Arsenal were the best team in the league. They slipped up at the end and obviously, City always come on so strong. I think the word that they said now is that they can’t believe they lost the league obviously eight points ahead,” Rice said to The Mirror.
“This year, I feel everyone including the manager and the staff, everyone’s learned from their mistakes. Everyone’s stronger, they have more belief. If we go a goal down, there’s still that confidence and mental strength in us that we can push on and win games. Like I said, the league is so strong this year and anything can happen and there are 12 games to go. The main thing is, we’re right in it. Because at Christmas we had a little wobble, we lost two games on the bounce which wasn’t good,” he added.

Arsenal are definitely in the race to win the title with 12 games left. Right now, Arteta’s team is two points behind Liverpool, who are in first place, and one point behind Manchester City, who are in second place.
