Chelsea have been one of the highest-spending clubs over the past two seasons. Once again they are ready to break the bank as they are willing to pay £80 million to acquire the services of Everton defensive midfielder Amadou Onana, according to TEAMtalk.
.The Blues want to bolster their midfield unit with the procurement of Onana ahead of next season. However, they will face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham, who have shown interest in the player.
Amadou Onana has high potential
Amadou Onana is immensely talented and has the potential to become a star in the footballing world. He joined Everton from Lille in 2022 summer for a reported fee of £33m including add-ons. He went on to become an integral part of the Toffees.
The Belgium international has featured in 27 games this season so far, netting three goals and providing an assist. He is averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 1 clearance per game alongside a passing accuracy of 84.6 per cent (stats via whoscored).
Onana is tall and a physically strong figure, which makes him an ideal fit in the English league. He is good at aerial duels and tackling, and has no significant weakness. He is destined to run shows in the Premier League if given proper guidance and remains injury-free.
Should Chelsea invest in Amadou Onana?
Chelsea have invested heavily in the midfield with the acquisitions of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia over the past seasons. They want to solidify their midfield even further with the inclusion of Amadou Onana and are willing to pay the £80 million demanded by Everton.
But should the Blues invest this much? Maybe not as they should prioritise hiring a proper number nine. They desperately need a striker who can score goals week in week out. The arrival of a quality striker will benefit more than the arrival of a midfielder.
However, with no shortage of funds, the English club can get both and take the squad to the next level.
