Premier League club Chelsea are preparing an offer for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, according to a report published in Fichajes. The club want to bring in a replacement for current goal-stopper, Robert Sanchez, in the summer.
Earlier the Italian club had demanded around €100 million for the player but things have changed since then. Though he will not cost that much, it will still be good money. Spanish giant Real Madrid are also keen on the French keeper as they look to bring in a back-up of Thibaut Courtois.
Mike Maignan is a show stopper
Mike Maignan played for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Lille but his career changed after joining AC Milan in 2021. He turned out to be an excellent signing for the Italian club. He has cemented his place in the starting lineup and has been their first-choice goalkeeper.
The 28-year-old has featured in 37 games this season, managing to keep 14 keen sheets. His solidity in front of the goal has helped AC Milan to fight for the domestic title. They are second in the points table, six points off the topper Inter Milan.
Maignan is known for his quick reflexes and strong hands to block tough shots from going into the goal. He is also excellent at distributing the ball and sending long passes. As a result, he is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has attracted interest from multiple clubs.
Slim chance for Chelsea
Chelsea have the wish to bring a new name between the sticks as Robert Sanchez hasn’t been convincing enough in the ongoing campaign. However, the acquisition of Mike Maignan won’t be easy at all. AC Milan have no intention of selling their hot property.
Moreover, the Italian club are preparing a new contract for the French goalkeeper which will extend his stay until 2028. If the player accepts the new proposal, he is unlikely to make a switch, ending dreams of Chelsea and Real Madrid.
