Chelsea are interested in signing counterpart Arsenal goal-stopper Aaron Ramsdale in the summer transfer window, according to TEAMtalk. The club see him as a potential player who could serve the club for a long period of time.
Despite having signed two goalkeepers last summer, the Blues remain keen on landing Ramsdale ahead of the next season. Though multiple clubs are interested in the English player, Chelsea are the front-runners in the competitive race.
What happened with Aaron Ramsdale?
Aaron Ramsdale arrived at Arsenal from Sheffield United on a long-term contract in August 2021. He went on to become a solid performer for the side and their prime goalkeeper. However, things have changed drastically for him after the first two seasons.
Boss Mikel Arteta has been preferring David Raya between the sticks, dropping Ramsdale to the bench. The latter hasn’t played even 1000 minutes so far this season. As a result, he has got fed up with the situation and is willing to leave the club following this season in search of game time.
The 25-year-old talented goalkeeper has attracted interest from multiple clubs. His quick reflexes and ability to block strong shots are appreciated by the majority, though he needs to work on his long passes, he remains a target for many top clubs across Europe.
Why are Chelsea running for a goalkeeper?
Chelsea’s interest in signing Aaron Ramsdale is understandable as there is uncertainty over the future of Robert Sanchez and Kepa Arrizabalaga. They believe the addition of Ramsdale will provide them the much-needed solidification in the defensive line.
