In a recent interview with Voetbal Zone, Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen revealed that he is dreaming of a return to Arsenal in the future. Malen said,
“I think because I played in England as a youth and then it is a dream to play in the Premier League, then I think that is a beautiful dream.
“I went to Arsenal so yes, them. I want Arsenal, my favourite club. Yes [about returning there]. I played there in my youth, I really wanted to break through there so yes.
“Every now and then in a football career there are points at which you just have to make a decision. Yes, I was training with the first team, and I was 17, 18 at the time and I did make steps in the optics, but I thought yes, I have to just play professional football.
“I also saw my teammates playing professional football while I was still playing youth football and I just knew (leaving) was the right thing to do.”
Malen’s Impressive Run Of Form In German Football
The 25-year-old is having a promising season at Signal Iduna Park as he has produced a series of impressive performances on the right side of their attack. Malen has banged in 12 goals and secured four assists in 30 matches for the German outfit during this campaign across all competitions.
The Dutch wide player has been a decent performer on the right flank based on his average of 2.7 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball after completing 79.1% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Bring Malen Back This Summer?
Malen is a good dribbler with the ball and has got the vision to set up a few decent chances for his teammates from the wide areas. He can strike the ball with power from long range and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.
The Dutch talent is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also function as a left-winger or play as a centre-forward if asked to do so. Hence, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will do well to snap him up in the summer transfer window.
At 25, Malen has got his peak years ahead of him and already knows the North London club well from his spell with them as a youth player. Thus, it makes sense for the Gunners to try and bring him back to the Emirates Stadium later this year.
