Liverpool entertained Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield earlier today as they looked to secure a good result at home in the Premier League. The Reds made a slow start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the second minute when Danny Welbeck scored with a good finish. However, Luis Diaz equalised for the home team in the 27th minute as the two teams went into the half-time break with a 1-1 scoreline.
Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead in the 65th minute with a tidy finish. Jurgen Klopp‘s men protected their slender lead well and secured a hard-fought 2-1 win in front of their home fans.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the contest against the Seagulls.
GK: Caomhin Kelleher – 6.5/10
Kelleher made a couple of solid saves at the back but couldn’t do much about Welbeck’s early goal.
RB: Conor Bradley – 8/10
He gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field and was a constant menace in the Brighton half.
CB: Jarell Quansah – 7/10
Quansah didn’t put a foot wrong when defending inside his half and was good on the ball.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 6.5/10
He could have done better to prevent Welbeck’s goal. Otherwise, Van Dijk was a rock at the back as usual.
LB: Joe Gomez – 7/10
He performed his defensive duties well and made one key chance in the final third.
CM: Alexis Mac Allister – 7.5/10
Mac Allister made a handful of decent chances for his teammates and picked up an assist for setting up Salah’s goal.
CM: Wataru Endo – 6.5/10
He anchored the midfield well and made one good run with the ball.
CM: Dominik Szoboszlai – 7/10
Szoboszlai worked hard defensively and engineered a few inviting chances for others around him.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 8/10
Salah had a lot of shots at goal but could only score one goal which proved to be the match-winner.
ST: Darwin Nunez – 7/10
He caused some problems for the opposition defenders but didn’t do enough to register a goal
LW: Luis Diaz – 8/10
Diaz was a constant menace in the final third and scored the all-important equaliser in the 27th minute.
