Spanish giant Barcelona are keeping tabs on Manchester United loanee Sofyan Amrabat as per a report published in Fichajes. The former club are considering adding him to their ranks in the summer transfer window to strengthen the midfield pack.
Sofyan Amrabat has fallen the pack
After representing multiple clubs, Sofyan Amrabat landed Fiorentina in 2020. His impressive stint at the FIFA World Cup 2022 tempted Manchester United to acquire his services at the start of the season. However, he hasn’t been convincing a signing for them.
The 27-year-old has featured in 22 games this season, contributing no goal or assist. Boss Erik ten Hag has lost faith in him as the player has been used for only 24 minutes in the last three months. He mainly plays as a defensive midfielder and has a good passing rate.
Amrabat likes to supply long passes and also takes shots from good range. However, he sometimes fails to maintain the intensity and loses concentration in the middle. Despite this, multiple clubs across Europe are interested in acquiring the midfielder.
A replacement for Sergi Roberto?
Premier League side Manchester United paid £8.5 million as loan fee for Sofyan Amrabat. The contract also included a buy option, which the English club are unlikely to trigger. Hence, many clubs are considering making a move for the experienced player.
Barcelona want to bring in Amrabat as a replacement for skipper Sergi Roberto, who is likely to leave the club following this season. The player’s contract will expire in June and the club have no intention of renewing it any longer. Hence, they are in the market looking for an alternative.
Amrabat’s experience could be a good addition to the Spanish club’s young midfield unit. He will add much-needed depth to the squad. However, Atletico Madrid are reportedly leading the race and it could be their first signing of the summer. AC Milan and Liverpool have also registered their interest in cracking a deal.
