La Liga side Barcelona have joined the race to sign Nottingham Forest defender Murillo in the summer transfer window, according to Mundo Deportivo. The club find him a viable option to add to their defensive ranks ahead of next season.
However, the player has generated interest from multiple clubs across Europe. Apart from the Spanish club, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the Brazilian. Hence, getting his signature won’t be that easy.
Murillo is a promising talent
Murillo‘s impressive stint with Corinthians earned a contract from his current employer Nottingham Forest. He signed a five-year deal last summer with the club. Since then, he has emerged as a reliable name in the English league.
The 21-year-old has been one of the best performers of the ongoing season for the Tricky Trees. He has featured in 27 games so far, assisting once. He is a physically strong and tall guy, excellent at tackling and winning aerial duels.
Murillo’s impactful performances at a young age promise a great future ahead of him. With proper guidance and experience, he will become even better. He is yet to hit his peak years and hence, many clubs are exploring ways to sign him.
Should Barcelona bring another centre-back?
Though Barcelona are allegedly interested in acquiring the service of Murillo, they might not be able to get their hands on him. The club’s financial situation isn’t too great and Nottingham Forest will demand a premium fee for the defender.
In such a case, the Spanish side will hesitate to spend too much on a single player. They also have the likes of Inigo Martinez, Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde for the centre-back role. Moreover, with the emergence of Pau Cubarsi, they already have a solid backline.
Therefore, it won’t be a good move to spend large to bring another centre-back into the squad. Instead, they can use that fund to reinforce in other aspects of the side.
