In a recent tweet, journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed that Barcelona are facing stiff competition for Bayern Munich ace Joshua Kimmich. It has been stated that the Catalan club would have to rival Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid in the race to land the Germany international this summer.
Kimmich’s Decent Numbers In German Football This Season
Kimmich is having another impressive campaign at the Bavarian club after he put in a string of decent displays for them in the middle of the park. The 29-year-old has found the back of the net once and earned eight assists in 31 matches for Bayern this season on all fronts.
The German talent has proven himself to be a reliable presence in both halves as he is averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.1 shots, 2.2 crosses and 2.7 key passes per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been careful when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass success rate of 90.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Bayern will expire in the summer of 2025, so Barca could potentially get him on a cut-price deal in the upcoming transfer window.
What Will Kimmich Bring To Barcelona?
Kimmich is a tough-tackling midfielder who can earn the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range.
The German talent can even set up a few promising chances for others around him in the final third. He is an accurate passer of the ball as well which makes him a great fit for Barcelona‘s brand of football. The Bayern Munich ace is primarily a holding midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder or act as a right-back if asked to do so.
Kimmich would bring more quality and depth to Barca‘s midfield department. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp in the coming seasons. At 29, Kimmich is currently playing in his prime and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the Catalan club if they can devise a way to get him on board soon.
