Aston Villa Are Facing Tough Competition For This Gifted Forward: Should Emery Snap Him Up?

In a recent report, Calciomercato stated that Aston Villa are facing tough competition for Flamengo forward Pedro. It has been claimed that the Villans would have to rival Chelsea, Fulham and West Ham United in the race to land the Brazilian striker in the summer.

Pedro’s Impressive Record In Brazilian Football

The 26-year-old has matured into a prolific centre-forward at the Brazilian club as he has managed to put in a lot of fruitful displays for them in front of the opponent’s goal. Pedro has scored 110 goals and secured 24 assists in 224 appearances for Flamengo so far in multiple competitions.

The Brazilian talent enjoyed a good run of form in the final third after averaging 1.9 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Brasileirao. He has even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass completion rate of 77.3% in the Brazilian top-flight (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Flamengo will run out at the end of 2027. Thus, the Villans would find it difficult to sign him on a cut-price deal at the end of this season.

Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Snap Pedro Up?

Pedro has proven his worth as a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from all ranges and is a technically-gifted footballer.

The Brazilian attacker can create the odd chance for his teammates up top and can make some clever runs with the ball in and around the opposition penalty area. Standing at 1.85m, he can use his strong frame to hold the ball up and win a few headers for his team.

We can expect Pedro to bring more firepower to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s frontline. He has what it takes to rival Ollie Watkins for a regular starting spot at Villa Park in the coming years. At 26, the best is yet to come from Pedro which makes him a worthy target for the Villans to pursue later this year.

However, there are some concerns over whether the South American sensation can adapt to the high intensity of Premier League football. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting Pedro, so Emery would be wise to snap him in the upcoming transfer period.
