In a recent report on Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon claimed that West Ham United are keeping a keen eye on Burnley forward Wilson Odobert. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are showing interest in recruiting the French wide player.
Odobert’s Impressive Rise At Turf Moor
Odobert has managed to shine at times on the left side of Burnley’s attack this season. The 19-year-old has done well to score four goals and secure a couple of assists in 18 matches for the Clarets during this campaign across all competitions.
The French talent has managed to catch the eye in the final third by averaging 1.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 78.1% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Odobert’s current deal at Turf Moor will run out in the summer of 2028 which would make it tough for the Hammers to land him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Is Odobert A Good Choice For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
Odobert is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play a killer pass in the final third and can make a few clever runs with the ball out on the flanks. The French wing wizard is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as a right-winger or play as an attacking midfielder if needed.
We can expect Odobert to bring more firepower to West Ham head coach David Moyes’ attack. He is good enough to serve as an ideal replacement for Said Benrahma at the East London club. The talented teenager already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the London Stadium if Moyes can devise a way to get him on board in the summer.
At 19, Odobert has the potential to become a future star in English football. Therefore, he would be a great, long-term choice for the Hammers to pursue at the end of this campaign.
