In a recent report, Tutto Juve claimed that West Ham United are keen on recruiting Genoa striker Albert Gudmundsson. It has been stated that the Hammers are eager to bring the Icelandic attacker to the London Stadium in the summer.
Gudmundsson’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Gudmundsson is having a decent campaign at the Italian club as he managed to produce a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Icelandic sensation has found the back of the net 11 times and earned three assists in 23 appearances for Genoa this season across multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a good performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.7 shots, 2.6 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even interchanged possession well with his teammates after making 79.8% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for West Ham to sign him on the cheap later this year.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Snap Gudmundsson Up?
Gudmundsson can make a few clever runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in and around the opponent’s penalty box and can shoot the ball with venom from long range. The Icelandic talent has done well to chip in by scoring his fair share of goals. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football if West Ham manage to sign him in the summer.
We can expect Gudmundsson to bring more quality to West Ham‘s frontline and give David Moyes more options in the final third. At 26, he is about to enter his prime soon which makes him a worthy target for the Hammers to consider in the summer transfer window.
Gudmundsson could go on to be a success story at the London Stadium as long as Moyes is willing to offer him regular game time in the coming years. All in all, West Ham should focus on snapping him up soon.
