In a recent report, The Telegraph offered an update on the future of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. It has been revealed that the Toffees have set a £100m price tag on the English centre-back with many top clubs hoping to sign him in the summer.
Branthwaite’s Impressive Rise At Goodison Park
The 21-year-old is having a solid campaign at the Merseyside club as he has managed to put in a series of dominant performances at the centre of their backline. Branthwaite has found the back of the net once in 27 appearances for Everton this season across various competitions.
The English talent has been a rock at the back and deserves credit for averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 4.5 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession from inside his half after making 78.7% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Branthwaite’s current deal at Everton will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, Sean Dyche would be in no hurry to cash in on him at the end of this season.
Should Everton Cash In On Branthwaite In The Summer?
Branthwaite is a tough-tackling defender who can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and excels at playing his way out from the back.
The Carlisle-born sensation can use his strong 1.95m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Toffees to replace a player of his skillset and potential if they decide to let him go in the summer transfer window.
Branthwaite is currently one of the first names in Sean Dyche’s teamsheet at Goodison Park. However, Everton are currently going through a financial crisis and could be forced to cash in on the gifted defender when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
At 21, Branthwaite has the potential to become a future star in English football. Still, the Toffees would find it difficult to keep hold of him if they receive a favorable offer from a top club this year.
