In a recent print edition, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on recruiting Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong in the summer. It has been revealed that Spurs would have to €100m if they want the Catalan club to part ways with their prized at the end of this season.
De Jong’s Impressive Form In La Liga
De Jong has put in a series of impressive displays at the centre of Xavi’s midfield during this campaign. The 26-year-old has found the back of the net once in 24 matches for Barca this season across all competitions.
The Dutch talent has anchored the midfield well and deserves credit for averaging 2.2 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.0 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 93.1% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Barcelona will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, Spurs would have no choice but to meet Barca’s demands if they want to bring de Jong to North London in the summer.
What Will De Jong Add To Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu’s Side?
De Jong loves a tackle and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and has got the vision to engineer a few clear-cut chances in the final third.
The Dutch sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. and is accurate with his passing from midfield. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if told to do so.
De Jong will add more quality and experience to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s midfield department. At 26, he is about to enter his prime which makes him a good choice for Spurs to consider at the end of this campaign.
De Jong has got the skillset to help the North London club compete for a major trophy in the coming years. Thus, Postecoglu should think about going all out to recruit the Barcelona star later this year.
