In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Real Madrid are keen on re-signing Manchester United defender Raphael Varane. It has been stated that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to bring the French centre-half back to the Spanish capital in the summer transfer window.
Varane’s Unimpressive Season At Man United
Varane is having a tough campaign at Old Trafford as he has struggled to find consistency with his performances for Man United on the defensive end of the field. The France international has scored one goal in 24 matches for the Red Devils this season across all competitions.
The 30-year-old has proven his worth at times when defending inside his half based on his average of 0.9 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 4.1 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back after completing 89.6% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored)
His current contract at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, Los Blancos could potentially sign him on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Bring Varane Back?
Varane is a tough-tackling defender who usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive. He can also make a few timely interceptions for his team when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.
Standing at 1.91m, the France international can be a dominant presence in the air as well. He knows Real Madrid well from his long and successful spell with them, so the player won’t take any time to settle into life at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
At the moment, Varane is finding life difficult at Old Trafford and might fancy a return to the Madrid club if Carlo Ancelotti opts to move in for him at the end of this season.
At 30, Varane has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. He got the defensive skillset and winning mindset to be a good signing for Los Blancos in the short term. Thus, it makes sense for Real Madrid to try and bring Varane back to the Spanish capital this summer.
