In a recent interview on Radio Continental, journalist Martin Costa mentioned that Newcastle United are showing interest in Boca Juniors wide player Kevin Zenón. Costa said,
“On the weekend at the Monumental there will be people from Newcastle who are going to go watch Zenón.
“The interest is there, they are going to see him and if he convinces them we will see what happens in the middle of the year. The clause is $15m.”
Zenon’s Impressive Run Of Form In Argentine Football
Zenon has caught the eye with his performances in Argentine youth football in recent years. The 22-year-old has managed to establish himself as a key member of Boca Juniors’ senior squad. He has done well to earn six senior appearances for the Argentine club, netting one goal and grabbing one assist in the process across all competitions.
The gifted winger is one of the most promising young players in Argentine football. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level. Still, there is no denying that he would be a good signing for the Magpies to pursue in the long run.
Is Zenon A Decent Option For Newcastle United?
Zenon is a decent dribbler with the ball on the left flank and can create the odd chance for others around him in the opposition half. He is a pure striker of the ball and has got the technical qualities to be a real menace out on the wide areas.
The Goya-born talent is primarily left-sided wide player but can also fill in as a left-back if required. At 22, the future looks quite promising for Zenon, so Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe should focus on getting a deal done for him this summer as long as he can sign him for a fair price.
However, there are some concerns over whether the Argentine wide player can cope with the physical demands and high intensity of Premier League football. Still, Howe should consider launching a move for Zenon at the end of this campaign as he will be a great option for the Tyneside club in the long run.
