In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing. It is understood that the Magpies are eager to seal a move for the Danish talent in the summer.
Billing’s Impressive Form At The Vitality Stadium This Season
Billing is having a decent campaign at the Premier League club and has managed to put in a series of influential displays at the heart of their midfield. The 27-year-old has participated in 23 matches for the Cherries this season, scoring two goals and picking up four assists in multiple competitions.
The Danish midfield ace has caught the eye with his performances at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 1.2 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield after completing 79.1% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Vitality Stadium will expire in the summer of 2027 which would make it tough for the Magpies to get a deal done for Billing on the cheap at the end of this season.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Go For Billing?
Billing is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team when he is playing well on the pitch. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can even shoot the ball with venom from long range. The Danish sensation can also create the odd chance for his teammates up top. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as a defensive midfielder or operate in the number ten position if required.
Billing would add more quality and depth to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s squad. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park over the next few years. Hence, Howe would be wise to go all out to land Billing in the summer transfer window.
The Bournemouth star has got enough Premier League experience under his belt to be a real asset at the Tyneside club. At 27, he is about to enter his prime which makes him a worthy target for Newcastle to pursue later this year.
