In a recent column for Napoli Magazine, Italian journalist Emanuele Cammaroto claimed that Napoli centre-forward Victor Osimhen favours a move to Chelsea this summer. However, it has been revealed that the Blues would face competition in the form of Paris Saint-Germain in the race to land the Nigerian striker at the end of this season.
Osimhen’s Decent Numbers In Italian Football
Osimhen is having another decent campaign at the Naples club as he has managed to put in a string of fruitful performances for them in the final third. The Nigerian talent has banged in ten goals and grabbed three assists in 20 appearances for the Italian club this season across multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old has led the line well by averaging 3.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he needs to improve his link-up play in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 70.7% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Osimhen’s current deal at Napoli will expire in the summer of 2026 which would make it difficult for Chelsea to sign him on the cheap this summer.
Osimhen Favours A Move To Chelsea This Summer: Big Boost For Mauricio Pochettino?
Osimhen can use his strong 1.86m frame to create some space for himself on the attacking end of the field. He can even engineer the odd chance for his teammates up top and is a powerful runner with the ball.
The Nigeria international has proven himself to be a capable presence in front of the opposition goal. However, it remains to be seen whether he can adapt to the high intensity of Premier League football if Chelsea manage to get him on board later this year.
At 25, Osimhen’s peak years are ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the Blues to consider this summer. His preference to move to Chelsea would be a big boost for Pochettino and his attempts to land the talented forward.
Osimhen is good enough to secure a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons. Plus, he might even help the West London club challenge for some major honours in the future. Thus, it makes sense for Chelsea to move in for him soon.
