In a recent report, Manchester Evening News claimed that Manchester United have identified Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba as a target. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils are eyeing a move for the Burkina Faso centre-back.
Tapsoba’s Impressive Run Of Form In Bundesliga
The 25-year-old has proven himself to be a capable presence at the heart of Xabi Alonso’s defence during this campaign. Tapsoba has been involved in 25 matches for the German outfit this season, netting three goals and picking up one assist in all competitions.
The Burkina Faso sensation has been a decent performer in the final third as he is averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per game in the Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 92.3% in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will expire in the summer of 2028. Thus, Man United would have to make a big offer if they want to convince Leverkusen to part ways with their prized asset this summer.
Is Tapsoba A Decent Choice For Manchester United Boss Erik ten Hag?
Tapsoba is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. The Burkina Faso centre-back doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and is a tidy passer of the ball when he is playing well on the pitch.
We can expect Tapsoba to bring more bite and steel to Man United head coach Erik ten Hag’s defence. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at the Mancunian club in the coming seasons.
Tapsoba would serve as an upgrade over Harry Maguire and Victory Lindelof and could be an ideal replacement for Raphael Varane who has entered the twilight years of his playing career at Old Trafford. At 25, he has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for Man United‘s needs at the moment. All in all, Tapsoba would be a great choice for the Mancunian giants to pursue at the end of this season.
