In a recent report, Sport BILD claimed that Manchester City are monitoring Red Bull Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko. It has been stated that the Mancunian club will have to rival Liverpool in the race to acquire the services of the Slovenian striker in the summer.
Sesko’s Rapid Rise At The Red Bull Arena
Sesko has enjoyed a decent campaign at the German club as he has managed to bang in his fair share of goals for them in Bundesliga. The 20-year-old has participated in 29 matches for Leipzig this season, scoring ten goals in the process across multiple competitions.
The gifted youngster has proven himself to be a capable presence in the final third based on his average of 1.3 shots and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. However, he has lacked quality when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 67.4% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Leipzig will expire in the summer of 2028. Hence, Man City would have to launch a convincing offer if they want to win the race for his services in the summer.
Manchester City Are Monitoring Sesko: Is He A Prospect To Watch Out For In The Future?
Sesko can create a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can even make a few intelligent runs with the ball in and around the opponent’s penalty area. The Slovenian sensation has done well to contribute by scoring his fair share of goals up top. Standing at 1.95m, he can use his powerful frame to win some 50-50 aerial duels in the opposition half.
We can expect Sesko to enhance Man City boss Pep Guardiola‘s attack in the long run. He has what it takes to serve as an ideal understudy to Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium.
Sesko is already good enough to increase competition for places within Guardiola’s match-day squad. At 20, he has the potential to become a generational talent and is undeniably a prospect to watch out for in the future. Thus, the Mancunian giants would be wise to get a deal done for him at the end of this campaign.
