Jurgen Klopp revealed what conversation he had with Ivan Toney following Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Brentford. Toney, who has been performing well since returning from a suspension, scored his fourth goal in five games against Liverpool. He wished Klopp well in the future.
Jurgen Klopp on Ivan Toney
Jurgen Klopp talked about what Ivan Toney told him after Liverpool beat Brentford on Saturday. Liverpool won 4-1 with goals from Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah, and Cody Gakpo. Toney also scored, showing he’s still playing well after coming back from a long suspension. But despite his goal, Brentford couldn’t make a comeback, and Gakpo sealed the win for Liverpool. This win is part of Klopp’s goodbye tour since he announced he’s leaving Anfield at the end of the season. Klopp said Toney sent him a nice message after the game.
After the game, Klopp talked and hugged Toney. Toney had said in August that he really liked Liverpool.
“Am I right in thinking he’s a Liverpool supporter? He’s not shy in saying that, so we spoke a little bit about that and he wished me good luck for my time after these things here,” Klopp said via Daily Star.

Toney wished because Klopp said he’s leaving Liverpool at the end of this season. He said this at the end of January, suggesting he’s tired and that’s why he’s leaving.
In a week, Klopp will get a chance to add to his great reputation at Liverpool. Liverpool will play against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, trying to win the trophy just like they did in 2022. But it might be harder because Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota got injured and had to leave the game early, and Alisson Becker and Trent Alexander-Arnold were already not playing.
“It is mixed emotions, we lost players which we don’t know how serious it is. It doesn’t look great for either of them [Jones and Jota]. I think there was a knock on Curtis [Jones]. It was a challenge with Diogo [Jota] as well and Darwin [Nunez] we are not sure if he has something or not, he felt something. We will see,” Klopp added.
