The competition for the Premier League’s top spot has gotten tighter. Arsenal defeated Liverpool 3-1 thanks to some mistakes by Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker. This victory moves Arsenal into second place, two points behind Liverpool. The title match appears to be between three teams. Manchester City are also in the mix, at third position, five points behind Liverpool but with one game in hand. Kolo Toure, who used to play for Arsenal, recently gave his opinions on the team’s victory.
Kolo Toure on Arsenal
Kolo Toure thinks Jorginho did an amazing job in Arsenal’s win against Liverpool. He believes Arsenal controlled the midfield well at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal scored three goals through Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard, securing a 3-1 victory and moving within two points of the league leaders, Liverpool. Jorginho, playing in Arsenal’s midfield, had a great game according to Toure, who won the Premier League with Arsenal in 2004. Toure thinks Jorginho’s experience was important for Mikel Arteta’s strategy.
“For Arsenal I think Jorginho was incredible in the middle. He was a coach in the middle, you could see he was placing his teammates, talking and communicating really, really well. Declan Rice was really good and I think Arsenal won the game because they won the battle in the middle,” Toure said.
Toure talked about the win’s impact on the Arsenal dressing room.
“It just makes you feel like you’re a good contender to win the league. We’re only in February, the Premier League is a competition that goes until the end of the season. Arsenal are still contenders, they are showing that because every team has to count on them,” he added.

“Of course, City are always there but it’s going to be a great race between those three clubs because those three clubs have fantastic managers and fantastic players and they have fantastic fans as well. I’m looking forward to this race. It’s very unusual to see Liverpool a little bit sloppy, I felt they were a little bit sloppy from the start of the game. They weren’t winning the 50-50 balls, they were losing balls in the middle, which we’re not used to with Liverpool. They are a team which always have intensity in the game, and they’re winning every battle. Konate was really good, unfortunately he had a red card at the end of the game but I thought he was really good,” he further added.
