In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is gathering interest from multiple Premier League clubs ahead of the summer transfer period. It is understood that the English centre-forward is attracting interest from a whole host of English clubs despite having a difficult season with the Toffees in the Premier League so far.
Calvert-Lewin’s Underwhelming Season In English Football
Calvert-Lewin has struggled to find consistency with his performances at Goodison Park this season. Still, the English talent deserves some credit for scoring four times and picking up a couple of assists in 26 appearances for Everton during this campaign across multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old has led the line well at times for the Toffees based on his average of 2.3 shots and 0.7 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he lacks quality when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 54.4% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Calvert-Lewin is under contract at the Merseyside club will expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Toffees would be better off cashing in on him this year rather than risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Cut Calvert-Lewin Loose?
Calvert-Lewin can generate some space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target and has got the vision to engineer some decent chances for his teammates up top. Standing at 1.89m, the English striker can use his robust frame to dominate the opposition defenders in the air. However, the experienced forward needs to work on improving his decision-making in front of the opponent’s goal if he wants to make the most out of his career.
At the moment, Calvert-Lewin is struggling to play with confidence at Everton. Thus, it makes sense for the Toffees to cash in on him at the end of this campaign when he will be on an expiring contract.
At 26, Calvert-Lewin has his best years ahead of him. However, he is far from a prolific forward, so the Merseyside club would be wise to cut him loose and use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement in the summer transfer window.
