Chelsea has been proactive in the transfer market in the last few years, having spent the largest sum in the past two seasons. According to Fabrizio Romano, they have their eyes set on Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, who is one of the most exciting talents across Europe.
The Blues included Williams in their list of targets last summer and have been monitoring him since then. However, the signing won’t be easy as the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid are also interested in getting the signature of the youngster.
Nico Williams is an exciting talent
Nico Williams is considered one of the best footballers in the Spanish world. His career has seen an uplift ever since he joined Athletic Bilbao. He has the raw pace, power, skills and technique to succeed at the highest level and make a legacy for himself.
In this season, he has featured in 20 games so far, netting six goals and providing 10 assists. He is averaging 1.6 shots per game, 1.7 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per game. He has played on both the flanks but was more effective on the left side (stats via whoscored).
The 21-year-old forward is also a regular starter in the Spanish national side. With time he is only going to get better and better. He is tied with the Spanish club until the summer of 2027 and has reportedly a release clause of €50 million.
Good signing for the club?
Chelsea have been struggling to find their best lineup for a long time. The arrival of Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk didn’t help as he failed miserably to meet the expectations. The inconsistency of Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke has made the case even worse.
Hence, it will definitely be a good deal for the Blues if they can get their hands on Nico Williams. The player would fit in well in their system and help the side a lot. His inclusion will strengthen the front line and help them find their best lineup.
