In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Sunderland star Jack Clarke could leave this summer amid interest from West Ham United. It is understood that the Hammers will have to rival Crystal Palace and Southampton in the race to land the English wide player who could be sold by the Black Cats at the end of this season.
Clarke’s Impressive Numbers In The EFL Championship This Season
Clarke is having a decent campaign at the Stadium of Light after putting in a series of impressive performances on the left side of Sunderland’s attack. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net 15 times and earned four assists in 35 matches for the English outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The English talent has been a reliable performer in the final third as he is averaging 1.6 tackles, 2.8 shots, 2.3 key passes and 3.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass success rate of 77.6% in the English second tier (stats via whoscored).
Clarke’s current deal at Sunderland will run out in the summer of 2026, so West Ham would have to make a convincing offer if they want to recruit him later this year.
Should West Ham United Move In For Clarke This Summer?
Clarke loves a tackle in the opponent’s half and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field.
The English wing wizard is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function on the right flank if told to do so. He is currently enjoying his football at Sunderland but it remains to be seen whether the gifted winger can maintain his good form in Premier League football.
Clarke would undeniably enhance the quality of West Ham‘s midfield department. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the London Stadium in the coming seasons. Therefore, the Hammers would be wise to move in for him in the summer transfer period.
At 23, Clarke’s best years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for West Ham’s needs in the long run.
