In a recent report, Calciomercato stated that Arsenal are keeping a keen eye on Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are eager to bring the Dutch attacker to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
Zirkzee’s Impressive Season In Italian Football
The 22-year-old is having a promising campaign at the Italian club after he put in a run of productive displays as the focal point of their attack. Zirkzee has banged in nine goals and picked up six assists in 26 matches for Bologna this season across all competitions.
The Dutch talent has led the line well by averaging 2.7 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball in the final third after completing 76.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for the Gunners to land him on a cut-price deal in the summer.
What Will Zirkzee Bring To Arsenal?
Zirkzee is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates up top and can make some clever runs in and around the opponent’s penalty area. Standing at 1.93m Zirkzee can win his fair share of aerial duels in the opposition half.
The Dutch forward has caught the eye with his performances for Bologna this season. However, he is far from a finished product and would need time to settle into life in English football if Arsenal manage to sign him in the summer transfer window.
At 22, Zirkzee has got a bright future ahead of him. He would bring more firepower to Mikel Arteta‘s attack and could help the Gunners compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the high intensity of Premier League football.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting a striker of Zirkzee’s potential. Therefore, the North London club should think about trying everything they can to lure him to the Emirates Stadium when the transfer window reopens at the end of this season.
