In a recent tweet, journalist Rodra mentioned that Arsenal are facing stiff competition for Girona defender Miguel Gutierrez. It has been revealed that the Gunners will have to rival Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Spanish full-back.
Gutierrez’s Impressive Form In La Liga
Gutierrez is having a decent campaign at the Spanish club after he put in a series of impressive displays on the left side of their backline. The Spanish talent has participated in 27 matches for Girona this season, finding the back of the net once and earning five assists in multiple competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a decent performer on the left wing and deserves credit for averaging 0.9 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 1.9 clearances, 1.0 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been careful when interchanging possession with his teammates based on his pass completion rate of 87.6% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Gutierrez is under contract at the Spanish club until the summer of 2027 which will make it difficult for the Gunners to get a deal done for him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Is Gutierrez A Good Option For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Gutierrez is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive. The Spanish left-back can shoot the ball with venom from long range and can also create a few inviting chances for his teammates up top. He is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
We can expect Gutierrez to challenge for a regular starting spot at Arsenal if Mikel Arteta can devise a way to win the race for his services. He will add more competition for Oleksandr Zinchenko at the North London club.
At 22, Gutierrez has the potential to become a future star at the highest level. Hence he would be a great option for the Gunners to consider in the long run. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football.
