In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, transfer insider Dean Jones claimed that Arsenal are convinced about recruiting Brentford forward Ivan Toney. When quizzed about the Gunners’ interest in the English forward and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Pedro Neto, Jones said,
“It was an ideal fixture for them to take in those two players. Both of them have been on the radar over the past year, and it was an opportunity to check exactly where each player is at this stage of the season.
“To be honest, I think it’s beyond the stage of gauging how good either player is. Arsenal are totally convinced that either of them or both of them could work well at the Emirates. There are not really any doubts around that.”
Toney’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League
Toney has been enjoying a good run of form of late for the Bees as he has managed to put in a few fruitful displays for them in the final third. The English striker has banged in four goals in five matches for Thomas Frank’s side this season in all competitions.
The 27-year-old has done well to average 3.6 shots and 1.0 crosses per game in Premier League football. However, he has to figure out a way to improve his link-up play up top after making just 55.6% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Move In For Toney?
Toney excels at creating a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in at goal. He can be a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. The English talent can hold the ball up well at times but needs to find a way to improve his passing accuracy on the offensive end of the field.
At 27, Toney’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the Gunners to consider in the summer. He would bring more firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s frontline.
The Northampton-born talent has what it takes to rival Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah for a regular starting place at the North London club. Therefore, Arteta should think about moving in for Toney in the summer.
