Chelsea will entertain Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge this Tuesday night as they look to secure a win in the second leg of their EFL Cup semifinal tie. The Blues suffered a narrow 1-0 loss in the first leg which they will now look to overturn in midweek if they want to book a place in the final.
Mauricio Pochettino will opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to keep changes to a minimum for this contest. Hence, Armando Broja might lead the charge for the West London club on the offensive end of the pitch.
4-2-3-1 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Middlesbrough
Defence
Dorde Petrovic will feature in between the sticks for the Blues after keeping a clean sheet in his last outing. Axel Disasi will continue to play alongside Thiago Silva at the heart of Pochettino’s defence as they look to keep things solid at the back during the 90 minutes.
Malo Gusto will fill in as the right-back while Levi Colwill hopes to catch the eye on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them need to be at their best if they want to create some decent chances from the wide areas.
Benoit Badiashile will offer cover for the defensive positions on the bench.
Midfield
Moises Caicedo will anchor the midfield along with Enzo Fernandez as they try to establish their superiority over the opposition at the centre of the park. Both of them need to move the ball well if they want to create some clear-cut chances in the final third.
The talented trio of Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Raheem Sterling will play just ahead of them as part of Pochettino’s attack. Palmer scored the match-winner from the penalty spot against Fulham which should keep him in good spirits going into this contest.
Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk will have to settle for a spot on the bench as they wait for their chance to make an impact in the second half if required.
Attack
Armando Broja will spearhead Chelsea’s attack up top. He would be eager to make a difference for Chelsea in the attacking end of the field.
However, Nicolas Jackson will be sidelined for this game due to his participation in the African Cup of Nations.
