In a recent interview (via ggrecon.com), Sky Sports pundit Glen Johnson urged West Ham United to move in for Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah. Johnson said,
“I think he’d be a good signing for West Ham and if the money’s right, then it could be a good deal for both parties. Nketiah’s shown a lot of promise and potential, but he’s never been a regular starter for Arsenal.
“For a striker to find their form, they need lots of game time and if Eddie makes the move to West Ham, he’ll probably be playing every week and then he can show everybody what he’s really capable of.
“If West Ham can get him, then they should and if West Ham go for him, then he should go.”
Nketiah’s Season Of Mixed Emotions In North London
Nketiah has experienced an up-and-down campaign at Arsenal but has managed to catch the eye at times with his performances in the final third. The English sensation has scored six goals and grabbed four assists in 26 matches for the Gunners this season across various competitions.
The 24-year-old has struggled to be consistent in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.7 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 81.3% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Go For Nketiah?
Nketiah is proficient at creating some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can be a streaky goal-getter in the final third and can create some decent openings for others around him in the attacking end of the pitch.
The English striker can also make a few driving runs with the ball in the opponent’s half. He would undeniably enhance the quality of West Ham head coach David Moyes’ attack. He has what it takes to rival Michail Antonio for a regular starting spot at the London Stadium.
At 24, Nketiah will only get better in the coming seasons. Hence, the Hammers should focus on go in for him before the end of this winter transfer window as he could help them compete for a European spot in the Premier League this season.
