In a recent report, Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that West Ham United have launched a move for Genoa winger Albert Gudmundsson. It has been stated that the Hammers are eager to secure the services of the Icelandic wide player this January.
Gudmundsson’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season
Gudmundsson has enjoyed a productive campaign at the Italian club after putting in a handful of impressive displays on the left side of their attack. The 26-year-old has found the back of the net on ten occasions and earned three assists in 19 matches for Genoa this season across multiple competitions.
The Icelandic sensation has been a reliable performer in the final third based on his average of 1.7 shots, 2.5 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been careful when interchanging possession in the opponent’s half after completing 79.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Gudmundsson is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2027. Thus, West Ham would find it difficult to get a deal done for the Iceland international this winter.
What Will Gudmundsson Add To West Ham United Boss David Moyes’ Team?
Gudmundsson is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also play on the right wing or in the number ten position if needed. He is a decent dribbler with the ball and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.
The Icelandic talent can even create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the attacking end of the field. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if the Hammers manage to get him on board soon.
We can expect Gudmundsson to add more goals and creativity to West Ham boss David Moyes’ attack. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting spot at the London Stadium. The Genoa ace could even help the Hammers challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. Thus, it makes sense for Moyes to go all out to bring Gudmundsson to the English capital before the end of this January transfer period.
