In a recent edition of the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast (12 January), Dan Kilpatrick mentioned that West Ham United are showing interest in Chelsea playmaker Conor Gallagher. It has been claimed that the Hammers could face competition in the form of Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the English talent this month.
Gallagher’s Recent Form In Premier League Football
Gallagher has managed to put in a few impressive displays for the Blues this season but has struggled to be productive for them in the final third. The 23-year-old has still not scored a goal but has picked up four assists in 26 matches for Chelsea during this campaign across various competitions.
The English sensation has been a decent performer in the opponent’s half as he is averaging 1.3 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 91.1% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Gallagher’s current deal at the London club will expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, it won’t be easy for the Hammers to sign him on the cheap this January.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Move In For Gallagher?
Gallagher is a good tackler of the ball and usually works hard for his team off the ball. He can shoot the ball with venom and precision from long range and has got the vision to create a few decent chances in the final third. The English talent is an energetic runner with the ball at his feet but needs to find a way to add more goals to his game.
Gallagher has struggled to be clinical for Chelsea in front of the opponent’s goal this season. However, there is no denying that a player of his quality would enhance the overall depth of David Moyes’ match-day squad.
We can expect Gallagher to bring more energy and dynamism to West Ham‘s frontline and help the Hammers push for a European spot once again in the Premier League. Thus, Moyes would be wise to move in for him as long as he can get him on a fair deal before the end of this winter transfer period.
