In a recent report, Calciomercato claimed that West Ham United are facing tough competition for Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson. It has been stated that the Hammers would have to rival Aston Villa, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma and Napoli in the race to land the Icelandic talent this month.
Gudmundsson’s Impressive Form In Serie A Football This Season
Gudmundsson is having a decent campaign at the Italian club as he has put in a string of productive displays for them on the offensive end of the field. The Icelandic striker has found the back of the net on 11 occasions and earned three assists in 21 matches for Genoa this season across multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a good performer in the final third based on his average of 1.7 shots, 2.4 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 79.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2027 which would make it difficult for the Hammers to sign him on the cheap this January.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Snap Gudmundsson Up?
Gudmundsson is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few clever runs with the ball in the attacking end of the pitch. He can engineer some inviting chances for his teammates up top and has proven himself to be a capable finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. The Icelandic sensation is primarily a striker but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if asked to do so by his manager.
Gudmundsson would add more goals to West Ham head coach David Moyes’ attack. He has what it takes to offer some healthy competition for Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen at the East London club.
At 26, Gudmundsson is about to enter his prime which makes him a worthy target for the Hammers to pursue this winter. With all things considered, Moyes should think about going all out to snap the Genoa ace up before the end of this January transfer window.
