Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, believes he can influence choices regarding signing new players in January. He claims to get along well with the club’s leaders. Pochettino wants to add more players to his squad in order to improve it. Since the takeover in 2022, the club has already spent a lot of money on new players.
Mauricio Pochettino on the transfer market for Chelsea
Mauricio Pochettino, who started working in May, asked the club to buy more players for improvement. The club has already spent about 1 billion pounds (or $1.27 billion) on new players since a takeover led by Todd Boehly in 2022.
Chelsea won three games in a row at their home stadium, Stamford Bridge, breaking a streak of not doing well at home that went back to last season when they finished 12th. Now, they are in the 10th position with 25 points from 19 matches.
“It’s obvious that the head coach, coach or manager is crazy to think he won’t be involved in any decisions for the future in my area,” Pochettino said.
“Of course, we will share with the owners, the sporting director and I cannot conceive the idea of not being involved,” he added.
Twelve players left west London for good, and eleven new players came in, like Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, and Robert Sanchez. When asked, he was questioned if he thinks this transfer window will be quieter than the one last summer
“Yes, of course. It’s not only my advice, it is about how we are sharing with the owners and the sporting directors. There is very good communication, we talk every single day and we will take decisions because we are all agreed,” he further added.
It’s not sure that Pochettino will make better transfer decisions. Managers sometimes make bad choices, especially when deciding between short-term and long-term goals. But if they truly work together, better results will come.
