Diego Forlan, a famous player from Uruguay, played for different teams. He began with Manchester United and Alex Ferguson as the manager, but didn’t do well there. However, things got better when he joined Villarreal. He also played for Mumbai City FC in the ISL. While at Manchester United, he had a memorable incident during a match.
Diego Forlan once played shirtless for Manchester United
Diego Forlan didn’t score a lot of goals during his two years at Manchester United. But when he did score, it was usually amazing, especially in a game against Southampton in 2002. Even though he had recently ended a long period without scoring, he started the match on the bench.
Sir Alex Ferguson subbed on Diego Forlan when the game was tied at 1-1, and the Uruguayan striker showed he deserved that trust. Forlan scored an amazing goal from outside the box, giving Manchester United a crucial win. In celebration, he took off his shirt, but putting it back on turned out to be harder than expected, causing a bit of a challenge to continue playing in the match.
So, Forlan had to play without a shirt for a bit, and it’s always amusing to see the video of him holding his top in one hand while making a tackle near the sideline.

It was an incredible moment. But FIFA didn’t like it. They made a rule that players would get a yellow card for taking off their shirts in celebration. Forlan managed to put his shirt back on with help from the United team staff. Later, he talked about the celebration that made him play partly without shirt for a short time.
“I went to the corner where the parents of the players always are and I dedicated my goal to my brother, a friend nicknamed Bata and an English friend that I have had since I arrived here,” Forlan said.
“The only problem that I had with my celebration was that I took my jersey off and then I couldn’t get back on. I wanted to do it but I had to keep on playing and I couldn’t get it on,” he added.
