In a recent report, Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are pushing hard for Genoa defensive ace Radu Dragusin. However, it is understood that Spurs could face competition in the form of Napoli in the race to land the Romanian talent.
Dragusin’s Impressive Form At Genoa This Season
Dragusin has enjoyed a solid campaign at the Italian club after putting in a handful of dominant performances on the defensive third of the pitch. The Romanian sensation has participated in 21 matches for his current employers this season scoring two goals and securing one assist on all fronts.
The 21-year-old has been a solid presence inside his half as he is averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 4.6 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from the back based on his pass success rate of 82.5% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Dragusin’s current deal at Genoa will expire in the summer of 2027, so it won’t be easy for Spurs to sign him on a cut-price before the end of this month.
Is Dragusin A Decent Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Dragusin is a solid tackler of the ball and doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. He can scan the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. The Romanian defender is a tidy passer of the ball as well. He can use his powerful 1.91m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.
Dragusin mainly operates as a centre-back but can also play as a full-back if required. He would undeniably bring more bite and steel to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s defence and could help the North London club challenge across all competitions over the next few years.
At 21, the future looks quite bright for Dragusin which makes him a great option for Spurs to consider in the long run. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in England. Still, Postecoglu would be wise to get a deal done for him before the end of this January transfer window.
