In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Leeds United starlet Archie Gray. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move to bring the English whizkid to North London.
Gray’s Excellent Rise At Elland Road
Gray has managed to break into Leeds’ first team and has done well to put in a run of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 17-year-old has made 27 appearances for the Whites this season, picking up one assist in the process across multiple competitions.
The talented teenager has been a positive influence in both halves as he is averaging 3.0 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.0 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Cup. He has also distributed the ball well from midfield after completing 93.3% of his attempted passes in League Cup football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Elland Road will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, Spurs could potentially land him on the cheap next summer.
Tottenham Hotspur Are Keeping Tabs On Gray: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Gray is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can even orchestrate a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third.
The English prospect can even shoot the ball with power from long range and is an energetic dribbler with the ball. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as a defensive midfielder or as a right-back if needed.
We can expect Gray to enhance the quality of Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s match-day squad in the long run. He is good enough to become a future starter at the North London club.
At 17, there is no denying that Gray is a prospect to watch out for in the future, so Spurs would be wise to get him on board this January or at the end of this season. However, there are some concerns over whether the gifted youngster can make a smooth transition to life in top-flight football.
