In a recent report, journalist Dean Jones claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a keen eye on Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup. It has been mentioned that Spurs are preparing to move in for the Danish midfield ace this month.
Frendrup’s Impressive Run Of Form In Serie A
Frendrup has put in a run of impressive displays at the centre of Genoa’s midfield this season and is currently serving as an important member of their starting XI. The Danish talent has made 21 appearances for the Italian outfit during this campaign, securing five assists in the process across all competitions.
The 22-year-old has caught the eye in both halves as he is averaging 3.9 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 0.8 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after making 79.5% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Frendrup’s current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, Spurs will have to make a sizable offer if they are serious about signing him this January.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Snap Frendrup Up This Month?
Frendrup is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can shoot the ball with power from long range.
The Danish talent can even create the odd chance for his teammates going forward and is an energetic dribbler with the ball. He mainly plays as a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as a holding midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if told to do so by his manager.
Frendrup would add more bite and steel to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s midfield department. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at the North London club. Furthermore, the Genoa star could serve as an ideal, long-term replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Therefore, Spurs would be wise to go all out to snap Frendrup up before the end of this winter transfer period.
