In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a summer move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. It has been mentioned that Spurs are eager to secure the services of the English talent at the end of this campaign.
Branthwaite’s Impressive Form At Goodison Park This Season
Branthwaite is having a solid season at the Merseyside club after he put in a string of impressive performances for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 21-year-old has featured in 23 matches for Everton during this campaign in all competitions.
The English centre-back has been a solid presence when defending inside his half as he is averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.8 interceptions and 4.7 clearances per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even distributed the ball well from the back based on his pass success rate of 79.3% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Everton will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Tottenham would have to pay a big fee if they want to recruit Branthwaite at the end of this season.
Is Branthwaite A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Branthwaite is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his strong 1.95m frame to win his fair share of aerials duels on the defensive end of the field. The English talent is proficient at playing in both centre-half positions.
Branthwaite would add more bite and steel to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 21, Branthwaite has the potential to become a world-class defender someday. Hence, he would be an excellent option for Spurs to consider in the long run. He already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at the London club. Therefore, Postecoglu should think about launching a big move to bring him to the English capital in the summer transfer window.
