In a recent report, Tuttomercatoweb stated that Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs hoping to land Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee. It is believed that Spurs could face competition in the form of AC Milan, Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign the Dutch forward.
Zirkzee’s Impressive Campaign In Italian Football
Zirkzee is having a decent season at the Italian club as he has managed to put in a series of productive displays for them in the final third. The Dutch talent has banged in eight goals and picked up four assists in 22 appearances for Bologna during this campaign in all competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a good performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.3 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he needs to work on improving his ball distribution after completing 75.8% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Bologna will expire in the summer of 2026 which would make it difficult for Spurs to get a deal done for him on the cheap in this winter transfer period.
Is Zirkzee A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Zirkzee is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates up top and can make a few clever runs with the ball in the attacking end of the pitch. The Dutch sensation can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing at the top of his game.
Standing at 1.93m, Zirkzee can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play in the opposition half. Still, there is no denying that Zirkzee has the potential to become a future starter at a top club like Tottenham.
At 22, the best is yet to come from the Dutch striker. We can expect him to add more firepower to Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He could help Spurs challenge across all fronts in the coming years. Hence, Zirkzee would be a decent option for the Noth London club to consider this January.
