The Scottish referees’ union has now come out to “strongly condemn any commentary impugning” the integrity of officials.
The Scottish Senior Football Referees’ Association also had this to say: “speculation surrounding the future appointment of referees” is “deeply unhelpful”.
Yes, laugh along with us as they jump to the defence of Willie Collum instead of using the opportunity to push for better reforms. This is the same organisation that still tolerates referees not being full time. And yet this is the battle where they have gone in two footed.
Not that anyone needs any reminding but this is all due to Collum making one of the worst refereeing mistake I have seen in many years and then trying to cover it up going back and drawing the lines to show that Sima was offside in the Old Firm.
This led to a meeting between the SFA and Rangers and the club very reasonably asked for the audio from the Old Firm derby VAR ruling. SFA in a separate statement decided to go to war with Rangers by stating how they are completely behind Collum.
They also made a factual error about Heart and Hand being a recent Rangers official media partner but let’s not even go there.
Incompetence and all this is doing is putting our game into further disrepute. Instead of ownership, SFA wants to show their muscle.
And then SFA wonders why the game in Scotland is in the state it is currently in? How will anyone take them seriously if this is how they treat a legitimate concern from a member club? A decision which was unanimously agreed upon by everyone as a ”laughable mistake”. But for SFA, it’s nothing more than covering up for their incompetence.
With mindset like this, expect nothing. Neither from Rangers and down the line, from any other club. After all no one wants a war of statements.
